Traditionally, the best pencils in the 1800s were made in China!. Yellow was a symbolic colour representing the Chinese Emperor, hence pencil makers chose to paint the wood of the pencil yellow to signify their products!. The practice has been carry on in the modern day, but of course there is nothing stopping pencil manufacturers from using other colours and patterns!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

my guess is because the color yellow has some sort of sedative affect on small children!.!.!.!.that is one reason kids today or as hyper as they are, they have all different colors of pencils and even plastic automatic ones!.

But I do know why the sky is blue!.!.!.!.!.!.if it were green then we would not know where to stop mowing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Another theory is that it dates back to 1890 when the Koh-I-Noor range was introduced and they painted it yellow to make it stand out from the other pencils, and because it was a top brand all the others soon followed!.
