Question: Help trying to learn about cameras!!!?
i'm trying to figure out what defines if a camera is SLR or CCD!. are all SLR camera's digital!.!.!.!.or are old film cameras considered SLR too!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
There are 35 mm and medium format SLR's and there are digital SLR's (called DSLR's)
If you own a Nikon or newer Canon or Pentax 35 mm SLR, you can use their lenses on the same companies DSLR's

There are CCD and CMOS sensors within digital cameras!. The resolution of the images produced by sensors has mostly to do with the size of the sensor, not the pixel count or type sensor it is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I feel so old!. When I saw your question I had to stop and think!. I hardly hear anyone mention SLR!.

SLR is a single lens reflex, in that, you look through the view finder, you are literally looking through the lens!.

No, the only SLR are what I just described!. These will be the kind you can add other lenses to!. Digital cameras, especially professional digital, can have other lenses but you also get to see your picture after you take it via the screen, or computer if camera is hooked to computer during shooting!.

The old point and shoot cameras are not SLR!. Point and shoot had very little to offer in the way of "constructing" a picture!. You may have been able to set the camera to faster speed film or slower, or some of the fancier ones allowed for minor macro work!.

I know little about digital but your first answerer was correct in what he said!. I have a digital, but it is so like the old point and shoots its not funny!. The only difference being, I get to see the picture right away!.

I am still a 35mm fan, still a manual SLR fan and use my digital for quick images!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

SLR=Single Lens Reflex!. You are looking through the lens that takes the picture!. Old film cameras, as well as digital, can be SLR!.

CCD=Charge Coupled Device!. In a digital camera, this is the light receptor!. Not a characteristic of any film camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
