Selective coloring is like a good song that you hear too often and tire of it!. After not hearing it for a while, you hear it again and say, "Hey, that was a good song!" The general public over did selective coloring ( and poorly , I might add) but used sparingly and right, it's a terrific effect!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love the look of selective coloring, if it's done right!. Some pictures just aren't cut out for it, and sometimes if it's a really vibrant color it's nice to lessen the saturation just a little bit, so it blends a little better!. I've used it in my own photography, as well as just adding saturation to an aspect of the picture, or lessening, but not completely wiping the color out of the rest of the picture, leaving one aspect fully saturated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I think if its done right it looks awesome but if you take an already bad picture and try to selective color it then it is still going to look like a bad picture!. also when its in the right place it can look awesome but when its in a weird place then it just looks weird!!

These are my favorites from yours (I like them all though):

Here are some examples of my selective coloring:

http://flickr!.com/photos/carrierox4ever1!.!.!. This is my daffodil and I did the selective coloring because the background was distracting!!

http://flickr!.com/photos/carrierox4ever1!.!.!. This is NOT my picture but its a picture of my cousin and I really like the selective coloring!!

On a side question do what do you think of my selective coloring!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i haven't used it!. yet!. because generally what i shoot does not lend itself to selective coloring (i shoot mostly faux finishes and gilded ceilings, and artwork) what i shoot for display and sale is either black and white, sepia, or full color!.
and i see alot of selective coloring in the works of other artists and in the commercial settings where i work so it gets rather ho-hum to me!.
but like sam said, YOU apply it quite well, that one of the knife and cherry tree is really a very impressive example!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's a valid technique and it has it's uses!.
It has been overused by many people but when there is a purpose to it, it's a great tool!. I think it works well with those images of yours!.

I rarely use it but it did solve a problem for me on the linked image!. It's was a tiny sea cucumber on a rock, he was barely bigger than a jellybean, and the rock he was on was mottled red, very busy, it was hard to make the poor little guy out on such a busy background, so I simplified it by desaturating it, letting him shine on his own!.!.

You are one of my flickr friends so he will blow up for you if you hit "all sizes"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is overdone!. I hate when people use it just to make their picture "kool!." There was one here today of a girl on the slide and one yellow part of the slide was colored!. It was awful!.

Yours are very tasteful!. I especially like the one of the cat and its reflection in the mirror colored!. Love, love, love! I have added it to my favorites!. You really know what you are doing!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

YOU are using is very tastefully!. If it was always done this well, I would love it!.

Those bright, bright blue eyes on Lori and Julie are a little out there, but the rest are rather subtle and quite artistic without bludgeoning the viewer with a sledgehammer of color!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm just sick of seeing the question asked on how to do it on here over and over and over ad nauseum!. Just in the last hour or so I have come across it FOUR times!. It absolutely amazes me!. Can NO ONE do a simple search!? I finally wrote a standard procedure reply and just paste it into the answer box!. Unbelievable!.

Yes the effect at times is overused!. As others have said though it is an effective technique when used properly!. You have a good eye for it and you do an excellent job with it!. I think you can be proud of the work you have done!.

Nice workWww@QuestionHome@Com

Interesting, you are very talented!. Try not to overdo this phase you are going through, after looking for a bit I wanted to see one or two full colour at the end!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I use it occasionally on wedding photos!. And yes it is the most over done effect right now- just a fad- I think!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It has it's place!. You use it well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
