Question: What does a fill light do on a point and shoot 35mm!?
i have this screen on my 35mm camera and there is a flash select button on it what if clicked with change the full flash to either red eye or fill!. when would selecting fill light be most useful!? the only annoying thing is id have to spend 5 seconds selecting it as the camera resets back to auto everything once i click the shutter button!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The normal full flash mode means the camera is relying on the flash to light the scene!. It is basing its entire exposure settings on the flash being used!.

Fill flash, however, allows the camera to expose for the ambient light just as if the flash were off!. The flash does fire though to give some needed light!. This is useful in conditions such as outdoors in the shade, or even in the bright sun which can make eye sockets go dark!. The fill flash adds some light to the normal exposure to fill in shadows!. So with fill flash you will have a photo exposed for ambient condtions plus the flash used to help fill in shadows!. In most cases, the fill flash mode will always give better resuts than the normal flash mode!. When in fill flash mode though, be sure and hold the camera as steady as possible though as it may be setting a lower shutter speed than it would be in full flash mode, and you could have some blur in parts of the photo!.

Hope that explains it for you!.
