Ok, as other people have said, take a walk around your city or town with a digital camera!. Look for contrasts in surfaces, Neoclassical, Gothic, "Queen Anne" from the C19, 1960's concrete brutalist, etc etc!.
you will find all this in larger commercial and public buildings but why not look at something more commonplace!. How about looking at doors and windows on ordinary houses!? You will be amazed at the differences in styles and details!. Or, pick a theme, industrial buildings, or schools etc

As well as going out "in the field" don't forget your local library!. This will have piles of architecture books for you to get images and information from!. Look in the periodicals section!. If you want to get some great stuff from the C19-early C20 ask them to fish out a journal called "The Builder" packed full of great drawings of buldings and building projects!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

your could work through some famous architecture leaning tower of pisa, churches, mosques any think with an interesting build like

I'm not sure what your brief is but I would thing using a camera would be one way to start this!. Go out and take close up shots of the different surfaces, see what ideas it gives you about the way in which these can be used!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
