Question: Do megapixels count for digital photos that will be unedited!?
I'm deciding on buying either the Nikon D40 or the Nikon D40x!. The D40 has 6!.1 megapixels, while the D40x has 10!.2 megapixels!. Will this difference really matter for photos that will only be cropped and slightly zoomed!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both of those cameras will be fine!. In fact most of the reviews prefer the D40!. You have to remember that the image sensors on SLR's are about 15 times larger than those on point and shoot cameras!. So any SLR will produce far superior images that can be blown up to at least 16x20!. While everyone talks about mega pixels they are not the most important thing!. The most important thing on any camera is the lens!. Second would be the analog to digital converter, third is the size of the image sensor and last is mega pixels!. You would be better off buying the D40 and investing any extra money in a good lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Even though I knew it would be better, the difference between my old 5 mega-pixel 1500 Vivitar and my new 10 mega-pixel s550 Nikon Coolpix (which I bought BEFORE ashton kutcher was in the comercial, so there) was amazing, if you'll be making anything larger than a 4x6 or an uncropped or digital zoomed 8x10 then DEFINATELY go for the d40x!. also don't forget to look at the zoom and macro lenses, which make a HUGE difference in the camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't let anyone tell you different, megapixels are important!. Megapixels are data and data counts for everything!.

You may not see the difference at 8x10" but wait until you print that gorgeous landscape you took at 16x20"!. It will show!. It will!.

Yes, but be careful!. More megapixels does not always mean better pictures because too many pixels on too small of a sensor means more digital noise which destroys the very point of having more pixels!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yea it does, the more pixels, the better it will look zoomed and croppedWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, always go for the higher megapixels!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
