Question: Who is a good/interesting Rennaissance(sp!?) artist to research!?
Personally, I dont like rennaissance art!. To me, it's bland, boring, and not exciting!. I'm auditioning for an arts school, and I need to research an artist for an interview!.
Since I find all them quite boring, what are some interesting ones that I might find, well, interesting!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go with Hieronymous Bosch!. Check out his paintings and read about him!. He was totally brilliant!. He had a super-original and unique mind, came up with very interesting and twisted and perverse imagery that really stirred up controversy with the Catholic Church!. His triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights is huge and intricate and really reveals a lot about his personality!. Try to find detailed images of his paintings!. The school will probably be floored!. I have a recommendation of a book, the 'Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini' a Italian Renaissance artist who wrote a very intriguing autobiography!. Among other thing he was a goldsmith and jeweler, sculptor, musician, painter and also gives instructions on how to paint properly (for the time) and grind colors!. I learned more about how artists went about working in Italy in the Renaissance day to day than in any of my Art Hist!. 101, or 201 courses!. Dover Books online cares an inexpensive English translation, or go to Amazon books to find a used copy I bet you could get one for $10 or under!. Good luck (they will be impressed with you picking this artist) from some one whose been through art school, and still loves art history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am sorry to hear the Renaissance turns you off!. !. !. !.this is where we get the term "Renaissance man" !. !. !. a person of many well developed skills and talents!. I love them all, as their contributions to art have been lasting and profound!.

Albrecht Drurer had a nervous breakdown, and actually beat DaVinci as the first man to invent a flying machine!. This time period was incredibly fertile with brilliance!

Botticelli was a prankster who made lots of money in his lifetime from sales of his work, unusual for that time period!.

Tiziano Vecelli (Titian) outlived most other artists throughout all time, waiting until he was 99 to kick the bucket!.

Lesser known Paolo Uccello made contributions in the areas of perspective and foreshortening!.

You don't have to love 'em, but you sure have to be able to appreciate them as a student of art and life! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, Da Vinci may be cliche' to you, however; if you study some of his more obscure works, you may find something of interest!.
And if you can find a DIFFERENT way to present Da Vinci's work, that will impress the interviewer more than finding a less known artist from the renaissance!. Interviewers look for the student that can approach a tired and well-worn subject in a different light!. By thinking outside the box!.
And without the Renaissance artists, we would still be painting in one dimension!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

da Vinci!

Artist, inventor, the ultimate rennaissance man!.

Where do you hope to go to school!?
