Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Durer definitely made some of the earliest identifiable formal self-portraits!. But it is believed that Jan van Eyck's "Portrait of a Man" is probably a self-portrait!. Painted in 1433, it predates Durer's!. Though, I believe it is not until Rembrandt, some 200 years later, that we get dozens and dozens of self-portraits, spanning the artist's lifetime!. The emotional and descriptive depth of these self-portraits are often described as a kind of visual autobiography!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Albrecht Durer (just a stab in the dark)Www@QuestionHome@Com |
