Question: For 35mm SLR with Quartz Date Back, where does date print!? In picture!? On back!?
I recently acquired a Canon Elan IIe 35mm SLR, with a Quartz Date back!.

If I use the functionality of the Quartz Date back, where exactly will the date be printed on my color prints!? Will it be in the picture itself, perhaps one of the corners!? Or will it be on the back of the print!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It will be in the front, usually in one of the lower corners, left or right!.!.!. The data-back has connections that go into the camera and when the data-imprint function is turned on, it will flash the little numbers onto the film at the time of exposure, just like a flash goes off, when you use one, at the time of taking the picture!.!.!.

Because these lil numbers (or whatever) are exposed on the film while in the camera, they will appear on the print side of the photograph, not on the back!. Anything on the back of the photograph is printed there by the lab doing your photos!.!.

Often these data-backs print in one of the lower corners of the film frame!. All too often they interfere with the image and are a bugger to get out!. Only since digital has become so wide spread has the ability to 'clone' out these marks been available!. However, some date backs actually printed between the frames, but this too was rather worthless because now the numbers were VERY small, hard to read, but when the film was cut to fit in storage pages, the cut ruined the impression and became worthless, again!.!.

While a "kewl" idea back then, they were like wearing raincoats at the park on a sunny day!.!.!.!.

It exposes the film with an alphanumeric image, usually on the right hand bottom part of the actual image !.!.!. not popular with photographers!. It was thought to be a good way to document images, but as things go, setting the clock in the camera incorrectly can negate any sense of authenticity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The date prints on the front!. It will ruin a good picture!. You can always order an index print with the date on it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I thought it imprints it through the back of the film!. Anyway, I always thought they were tacky!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
