Question: Which Nikon (d40) lens should I take on my tourist trip!?
Goin to NYC and Philadelphia for 4 days!.

I want to pack light and don't feel like changing lenses during my trip!. IF you only had to choose ONE lens!.!. Would you recommend taking the 50mm f1!.8D or the 18-55 f/3!.5-5!.6 kit lens!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The zoom !.!.!. for sure!. While the 50 mm is a fine lens for shooting portraits and in low light, it is a medium telephoto when used on a D40, so would be too limiting when attempting to shoot landscapes and the 18-55 mm covers both medium wide angle and medium telephoto lens lengths!.

I don't know why you would not take both lenses !.!.!. I carry a minimum of three when going anywhere !.!.!. when on assignment, I carry at least five lenses and two bodies (D300 and D3) in my generic backpack

Unlike the 18-55 mm kit lens sold with the Canon's, the Nikon AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens is an excellent one !.!.!. IF Canon made a 18-55 mm USM "L" lens they would not be getting the grief from owners of the Canon "kit" lens

There really is not single lens that is great for everything!. So I have to ask what will you be shooting in Phili!. If you are doing mostly indoor activities I think the extra light the prime lens (50 mm 1!.8 ) would let in would be important!. If you are doing mostly people the the prime lens is also great for that !. If you are shooting buildings you might need the ability to do a wider angle!. Remember due to crop angle the 50 mm lens gives you a field of view similar to a 75 and the 18 that of a 27 mm lens!. also the prime will give you sharper pictures than a zoomWww@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely the 18-55!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
