You will probably need a macro lens in order to get as close to the subject as possible!.

In order to blur up the background the smallest possible Depth of Field needs to be chosen (choose the lowest possible aperture number)!. An explanation can be found here: http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Depth_of_fi!.!.!.

If you have a real good macro flash you should try this technique: increase the exposure time manually so that the picture is underexposed!. Now use your flash to brighten up the foreground!. The result will be that the foreground (your flower) will be exposed correctly while the background gets darker!. This further highlights the flower in the foreground!.

These guys have pretty cool tutorials online for flower photography!.

take the photo with a large aperture (small f-stop number) for a shallower depth of field

For starters you will need a rather fast lens (2!.8 or 1!.8 smaller is faster) to be able to blur the backgroup!. If your lens is not that fast (if you got a 4!.0 or 5!.6, etc) then get the subject as far away from the background as possible or you can blur the picture later in PhotoshopWww@QuestionHome@Com

You need a really good lens and probably a macro feature on your camera, too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
