If you can't afford much at all, you could check out some books at your local library!. They have books that address basic digital cameras, not just "fancy" ones!.

And I think the person above is wrong about talent!. I mean, a camera is an instrument!. Anyone can learn to use it!. Anyone can put in the right controls and take a great photo!. Of course, you can always tell who has talent versus who is just taking photos!. Those with "talent" are the ones who can try new things, capture the right moment, and purposefully produce a great image!. Someone who is just taking photos will have pictures that look like everything else!.

Since you already said you like to take photos of nature and people, you've already started!. Just keep going! The more you shoot, the more you learn!. Try new things!. Try different light, different angles, different subjects!. After you take a photo, look at it seriously and think about how you can make it better!. Perhaps the girl in your photo had hair in her eyes!. Or maybe the wind blew when you shooting a flower and you want to take a clearer photo of it!.

Keep shooting and keep practicing!. Always find ways to better your photos!. As you start to rack up great photos, you can try selling them to friends or family!. Put them in cute frames that match and tell them you are trying to earn money for a better camera!. A 4x6 print can cost as little as 15 cents, and you can get frames from a dollar store!. Then you can charge $5 or $10 for the framed photo!. You could even try door-to-door with your neighbors or at your church if you attend one!. Try to sell a different photo to each person for a while, not always the same one!. That way, people will begin to notice all the great photos you have and may ask for more!.

I don't recommend that you take a photo of one person then immediately ask them to buy it!. If you hope for someone to purchase a photo of themself, you should ask before you even shoot it!. Otherwise people feel obligated or used!.

There are even some amateur photography contests that give out cash prizes or cameras!. I recently entered one for all ages where the first prize is $5,000 AND a professional camera (the one I already own)!. Of course, usually contests that have really great prizes like that have an entry fee!. That particular contest was about $4 per entry, with no limit!.
http://www!.pfmagazine!.com/Contest!.aspx (This is the one I entered for the first time and plan to enter each season now!.)

But there are some free contests!. Here is an online one where users rate each other's photos!. You can win by ratings, or you can be automatically chosen by the webmasters!. The prizes are digital cameras!. They're not "fancy" or professional, but they're better than most basic cameras out there!. http://www!.soaphoto!.com It is free to join and you retain all rights to your photos!.

Keep an eye out for contests in your area!. Magazines, newspapers, librarys, schools, colleges!.!.!. All these places offer contests from time to time!. For example, once my local hospital held a contest for photographs promoting the American Heart Association, with a cash prize!. Ask people you know to also alert you if they hear of one!.

Be careful when entering contests! There are a lot of scams out there!. Here are some articles to read before entering one online!.

You really need a fully adjustable camera to learn photography!. P&S camera are fully automatic, so take much of the creative options way from someone who wants to learn how to be a photographer!.

You can find some good used 35 mm SLR cameras with standard zoom lenses for under $200 on craigslist in a city near you!.

Examples from my area:

Learning how to control your exposure and use the controls to shoot your subjects using selective focus, show shutter speeds to imply motion, shooting long exposures to capture lighting or fireworks !.!.!. even painting with light and shooting portraits of your friends using Bokeh are all things that only an adjustable camera can do easily once you learn the basics!.

The best thing is that once you learn how to compose and expose your shots, when you later do buy a DSLR that will use the lenses you have, you will not have to spend hours in front of a computer "fixing" all those things that some people seem to never learn to get right in the camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A digital camera is all you need to get started, heck, you can even use a disposable one!.
Just keep taking pictures!.
If you want, develop your pictures and show them to your friends, family, ect!.
Or if you want to get creative, upload the pictures from your digital camera to your computer and edit them with a simple photo editor [like make them black and white, sepia, ect!.]

Hope this helped! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The photograph is as much about the person behind the lens as the subject in front of it!. Even with a basic digital camera, you should be able to work on composition, lighting, etc!.

You should get a book or two on photography, and digital photography as well; and try to learn Photoshop - it is the digital photographers darkroom!.

ok im reallyyyy into photography
basically you start small

Ok, while an slr is best, use what you have!. Walk oput your front door and look at what at what you see!. Step one is to develop your eye, learn to really see what you are looking at!.
Take a picture- now look at it, does it have:

A clearly identifiable subject or theme!?
B!. Did you draw attention to mthe subject in some way!?
C!. Is it in sharp focus!?

Now turn around and go out your back door and look for:
natural framing devices
converging lines
contrast in colors
