You CAN'T take "stunning pictures" with a webcam!. Maybe that's not the answer you wanted, but it's the truth!. To take decent pictures, you need a real camera!. A webcam is only good for video chat or for quick snapshots!. If you just want to take quick snapshots to use as a profile picture for Facebook, MySpace, etc then a webcam is okay!. But if you want to take real pictures, then you need a real camera!.

To get decent pictures you need either a high resolution, good quality digital camera, or GASP!.!.!.a film camera! And for "stunning" pictures!.!.!.we won't even go there!. You would really need to know the basics about real photography!.

In fact, webcams and cell phone cameras are horrible at taking pictures!. They're the worst!. Not only are they low resolution, but they also have very poor light gathering so they need a lot of light just to record an image!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

U get limited results from a lt cam that is fixed-focus with a wide depth-of field- it's meant to be a universal fix for all situations!.
Take a tip from studio photography and concentrate on lighting and set design!. Studio lights are pricey, but U can get the same effect with say, a soft frontal light filtered thru a translucent linen-like screen, a high light behind you for a bright fringe in your hair, and mebbe a medium side light for a profile!. Wash out all shadows these ways, unless you need a dramatic dark somewhere!. For the rest, surprise us!
BTW, a background need not be elaborate- any good tapestry will do: even a painter's dropcloth works for stage personalities!.
Get a styrofoam wig head, set in place to stage your lighting- let it stand in for you while you adjust things!. Use a dimmer switch for better control on each light!. Tip: go to an optician and buy a #7 reducing lens- you peer thru it for a 'camera's-eye' view: check for interesting contrasts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can't is the easy answer!. Webcams are not designed to take 'stunning' pictures, but to facilitate on-line video conferencing!. Your question is a bit like asking 'how can I win the Monaco Grand Prix (Indie 500) in a Smart Car!?'Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pictures yes, stunning pictures no, for those you need a proper camera with higher resolution and to control the lighting!.

Same goes for mobile phones!.
