Wilber was described as a "runty" little pig!. A runt of the litter, for example, is smaller and weaker than the it's siblings!. Runts have trouble surviving and are often rejected by their mothers!. So the author was trying to get across that Wilber already had two strikes against him when he was born!. Just another thought, being a runt he couldn't protect himself that's why Charlotte felt protective of him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
