Easy question first: How to get to the blue channel in the channels palette!.
If the channels palette is not already open, open it by going to the Window menu>channels
When the palette is open, you will see 4 rows!. Top row is RGB, row 2 - R(ed), row 3- G(reen), row 4 - B(lue)!. Click on the 4th row to select the Blue channel!.
Duplicate the blue channel by going to the fly out menu on the Channels palette, and select duplicate channel!.
A displacement map allows you to remap the pixels in an image to a contour or shape, to give the image the illusion of wrapping around somthing or having the volume of some object!.
Displacement maps are a little more difficult to explain, and I will point you to a good tutorial over at Creativepro!.com, an excellent source website!.
