Question: Is pornography an art!?
Explain why for both yes or no answersWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Pornography is no more an "art" than is technology!.

However, some forms of art can be considered as pornographic!. That, of course, can often be in the eye of the beholder, since not every one can agree on what may, or may not be pornographic!.

Michaelangelo's famous statue of "David" was, at some point considered too graphic for Victorian tastes, so, a fig leaf was added, hundreds of years after the artist created it, to cover the "offending" organ!. Was it "art" BEFORE the fig leaf was added, or was it, merely, pornagraphy, untill the fig leaf was added!? Is the male penis, inherently pornographic, merely because it exists in any location not covered by clothing!?

A former US Attorney General was so offended by the naked breast of a piece of statuary in the US Capitol, that he ordered the breasts covered, even though the statues had been standing in the same location for decades!. Was he protecting visitors from inadvertant exposure to pornography, or, was he attempting to force HIS standards of decency on the rest of us, by applying his own, unauthorized form of censorship!?

I suppose a live sex performance in pubic might be considered indecent and pornographic almost anywhere in our culture!. But is a mother, breastfeeding an infant in any way, pornographic!?

I don't like "honkytonk89's" answer about "pain" deliniating the point where art becomes pornography!. That would suggest that any painful subject could not be included in any kind of art form!. That means that any paintings of Christ on the cross, or images of the Holocaust are not art!. Sometimes, depictions of pain can evoke very real feelings, and not just, bad or purient ones!.

And, to bring it around to my first statement, technology can be presented in an artistic form!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, the explicit nature of the subject matter makes it hard to see initially, but it is an art form, and has been in several cultures throughout the world!. Most notably in the Asian, and Indian countries, as well as places like Egypt!.
The major problem is that we Westerners have turned it into such a raunchy thing, that all we see is the filth, and completely forget about good taste, and artistic values!. But, hard as it is to appreciate, even the raunchy stuff has it's place in the art world!. It is very definitely, an entity unto itself!. Kinda like a "black sheep"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pornography!.!.!.in my opinion is not an art!. With porn, there is an erotic feeling but not a good one!.!.!. When you look at the photo!.!.!.it's lustful!.!.!.and it's merely designed to give pleasure to those who view it!.!.!.but not a good pleasure!. Porn hopes to get your horny!.!.!.not to evoke emotion out of you!.

Nude photography is an art!.!.!.they can even be erotic!.!.!.but it is a design!. You don't see a girl looking like she's in a world of pain while someone's penis is shoved into her!.!.!.you have a simple touch!.!.!.a gentle and beautiful composition!. You might have a man and a woman in an erotic position, but an artistic photographer will be able to capture it and inspire the viewer!. Anyways!.!.!.i hope this answers your questionWww@QuestionHome@Com
