Question: Will acrylic gems melt if embedded in polymer clay (sculpey/fimo) before baking!?
This is an often handled object!. I want to embed gems into the clay and smooth clay over the edges rather than sticking them on later!. I've embedded glass objects into polymer clay but don't know if the acrylic gems will melt!. I guess I can experiment but I was hoping someone who has done this before will have had either many successes or horrific failures to detail for me!. Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have tried the acrylic rhinestones and they came out all cloudy!. I'm sure that your gems would do the same thing!. I know that you don't want to stick them on later, but you may not have a choice!.
You might try this, although it would be really finicky!.
Embed your gems where you want them, and then remove!.
Bake your clay piece, glue in you gems after the clay cools!.
Have 'pre-baked' thin donut shaped clay (or whatever shape your gems are!.) and glue over your embedded gems, covering the edges of the gems, securring them in place!.
Just a thought!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have successfully used glass rhinestones in sculpy the low temperature baking does not effect them!. I have not tried acrylic gems (at least I don't think I have)Www@QuestionHome@Com
