Question: In Filippo Lippi's painting "Adoration of the Magi," what is the object that sits on the upper leg of Jesus!?

It is a small black item that almost resembles a rattle or realistically, a pac man !. !. !. I couldn't find any information on it anywhere online and my art history books are long gone!. Thanks for whomever can get this one!.

I enlarged it to 200%, and to me!.!.!.this will sound weird!.!.!.but it looks like and absolutely HUGE diaper pin!
