I asked her what lense comes with the camera, and she said it is a 58 mm lense!?

for 300 dollars you can't go wrong if you are just starting out!. but i do recommend that you test the camera out to make sure that all of the functions work such as making sure the lens will auto focus correctly, make sure that the on camera flash is working (sure you can use a hot shoe flash if it is broken, but it would be nice if the on camera flash is working too- that way you can use it to trigger an external flash) but i might be getting a little ahead of myself!. other things that you want to check for is that the focus and zoom rings move smoothly!. make sure that there isn't sand inside the lens!. sure this might sound weird, but i have seen plenty of customers come to my store to complain that their lens isn't working properly only to test it out myself and find that they were recently at the beach and acquired a fair amount of sand in the lens so that when you zoomed it, it would grind and give resistance!. if all is well with the camera, shoot off a few pictures and make your determination!. good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You Should Take Her Up On Her Offer
The Rebel XT Is A Great Camera!.!.
For Three Hundred Dollars!.!.!.

That's A Deal Because A New One
Sells For Around One Hundred And
Fifty Dollars More Than That!.!.

you asked if you could get something better for the price, but the truth is you can't!. the cheapest digital camera is around four hundred dollars ( Digital SLR ), which is the XT body only, you couldn't get a new digital SLR for Three Hundred Dollars used is another chapter, but for that price, it would be a pretty messed up one!.!. lol

i agree with the first answerer, 58mm sounds like the diameter of the lens, which you would need to get a filter for the lens!. I think she's referring to rather the 50mm or 18-55mm lens, the other lenses wouldn't have been just to expensive to include in that price!.!.

That's a great combination for that price!.
but, after all, it's a used camera!.!.

however, if you can't wrap your head around buying something used, you should get this camera for sure:
http://www!.amazon!.com/Nikon-Digital-18-5!.!.!.

That's the nikon d40, with the 18-55mm lens, and it's around four hundred and seventy dollarsWww@QuestionHome@Com

You aske this earlier- yes it is a good deal!. However 58 mm is the diameter of the lens, that is the size of the filters you put on it( UV, Polarizing filter, nuetral density filter) the lens that comes with that camera is an EFS 18-55 mm zoom lens!. I don't think you will find a better price for that camera Look at the bottom of lens barrel and it will say EFS 18-55 mm!. In white lettering!.also on the front of the barrel it will Canon Zoom Lens ef-s 18-55 1:3!.5-5!.6 then if you turn the barrel slightly you will see where it says 58 mm!. To see this look directly down at the lens and you see it printed on the inside ring!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Heck yes! 300 bucks is not bad at all!. 58mm lens is the diameter of lens not the view range!. The lens is most likely an 18-55 mm that usually comes with the camera!.
The 58mm would be the size you look for when buying filters or lens caps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To add to the answers, can you ask your friend to let you take the cam for a spin before buying!?

If you like it, buy it!. Providing the lens fits and all works on camera, it's good deal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes!. rebel xt is a good one for beginners!.!. i also suggest you invest some good lens!.!. but the kit lens would still do the job!. 18-55mmWww@QuestionHome@Com
