Don't panic!.!.!.a month is plenty of time to do a painting!.
In terms of subject matter, it can be very difficult to start a painting due to changing ideas!. Sometimes it can even be healthy to scrap previous ideas and start fresh on a new train of thought that isn't muddied with old ideas!. Personally, when I get too weighed down by extreme planning, it helps to just start without a full drawn out idea of what the finished product will be, but a vague idea of placement and theme and just go from there!.

In brief, I will describe how to paint with oils!. This is one way to paint with oils and the way I usually go about it!. I prefer to paint wet on a dry canvas/surface!. Paper palettes don't work especially well with oils, I would recommend glass or even plastic or plexiglass!. Apply a small amount of your colors to your palette along with your medium (linseed oil, liquin - whatever you're using to dilute your paint) to the side!. To mix colors and get the desired consistency/transparency, take a little bit of the colors you need and mix a small amount of your medium into them!. The more medium, the more transparent!. As you apply them to the canvas you will find that it is very easy to change the color once it has been applied by just adding in more color!. To blend and make smoother transitional areas, a dry round brush can be used lightly across the surface!. Because oils do not dry anywhere near as fast as acrylics, you may after a while find it difficult to continue working in a single session when the paints are very wet and colors are becoming muddy!. Just leave the painting alone for a while (overnight preferably) and you will be able to create further depth by layering more transparent paint over the existing base (or make any changes)!. I prefer to use bristle brushes, but synthetics are fine - make sure when you are done you remove excess paint with mineral spirits/turpentine and clean them with soap and water - remember that once you use brushes with oil paint they shouldn't be used with acrylics again!. If you play around with it, you'll get the hang of it! Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just make something up!.

Do something abstract and think of some kind of meaning for it!. You should take advantage of the fact that art has turned into a joke and that anything goes, so this works to your benefit considering your situation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know this might sound kind of weird, but this is how i start my art projects!. I take any random color and put that on my paper/ canvas!. From there, I improvise!. A lot of artists don't know what to draw because they get intimidated from the glaring white paper!. Don't be afraid!. Start from that single color!. And then just let your imagination run wild!. At least that's how I do my drawings!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't have an idea about what subject matter you could do, but does it have to be in oil paint!? Why can't you use a medium that you're at least comfortable and familiar with!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

just start sketching what ever comes to your mind!. Then by and hour or so you will definately have something that you think is best and then start doing that!.

(Btw, Moulin rouge sounded very cool)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why don't you ask your art teacher for help with oil painting and just keep sketching until you get a sketch you are happy with!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yikes, you are cutting it close for oils!. To be honest I was immediately drawn to your "Fire" concept!. You could first paint your canvas , canvass board, or whatever with a pale yellow, but thinly!. Even smearing the paint on with a rag!. Then how about depicting a phoenix rising out of flames, or something representing hell!. You can make the flames with various shades of red, orange and deeper yellows!. Search the net for phoenix pictures, or those of the devil!.

How about a mixed media piece!. Use pieces of cardboard, large beads, wood or anything you can glue to another canvas board!. Then use acrylics to color it!.

When I need inspiration I grab 2 big art books I have from college, and leaf through them!.

Good luck, and have fun with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
