Question: 50mm prime lens owners: Do you use a hood to help reduce flare!?!?!?
1) If the lens is recessed deep enough, is a hood/shade still necessary to reduce flare!? Or is it more for protective means!?

2) also, when you use a filter such as a UV or skylight on a 50mm that is recessed, only then is a hood necessary, as the filter adds another element to the front!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I used a 50mm lens for many years without a hood!. I had a small rubber hood, but never saw the need to use it, even when using filters!. Hoods are most useful on wide angle lenses, or any time you shoot towards bright light sources!. It's all up to you!. If you have glare, use a hood!. If you don't, you're good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I use a lens hood on all my lens whether it's 50mm or not!. No matter how recess the lenses are, you don't always shoot at the same angle to the sun at all times!. Sun will still flare!. It just adds an extra protection from the sun!.

All my lenses have a UV/skylight on them primarily to protection them from getting dirty or damaged!. This is in addition to the lens hood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I use a hood on mine sometimes depending on the location and brightness of the sun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With the 50mm, I have never used a hood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
