Question: Acrylic paints/Markers on drumsticks!?
I'm thinking of getting my boyfriend, a drummer, a pair of customized drumsticks for his birthday!.

Do acrylic paints work well on drumsticks (including lacquered vs!. bare ones)!? And does some protective coat need to put on it!?

Orrrr, do sharpies or other types of markers work well!?

Do any of these smudge or wear with use!? Do you have any other suggestions!?

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Use a spray enamel (either acrylic water based or oil based)!. Spray enamels hold up pretty well on untreated natural wood!. Then you clear coat the sprayed paint, using either a lacquer or urethane or varnish paint (either a spray or brushed on clear coat will work)!.

The only problem you may face is if the drumsticks have already been lacquered or varnished!. Paint will not adhere to lacquer!. But you can solve this problem by using paint remover to remove the original varnish or lacquer coat first!. Or if you wish you can remove the varnish or lacquer coat with sandpaper!. Then you spray paint and re-varnish the natural wood as mentioned!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Acrylics tend to be too soft to stand up well!.
plastics like varathane (urethane) or laquers stand up better!.

It is the thought that counts really, and drumsticks take a real beating (hee hee) so they really don't usually last very long anyhow!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
