Honestly, I think they went this route with there "consumer" line of DSLR cameras because everyone and there dog has an SD card from an old point and shoot!. I really don't ever think they will do this with there more advanced cameras, though it would be nice to have a CF slot AND an SD slot like the 1D line of cameras!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good Question!.!.!.!.
I Much Rather SD

Because They Make The Slot Smaller
They Make Room For More Features!.

I don't know why canon is doing this, but i guess it's not much of a problem, it doesn't affect the quality at all, it's just a choice of the manufacturer!. Nikon uses mostly SD cards, and they are some of the most professional based cameras on the market today!. Alot of more professional cameras have both slots though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When Canon committed to CF, that format had the advantage of higher capacity!. You could get these Microdrives, which were actual tiny hard drives that fit in a type II (slightly wider) CF slot!. These days, you can get all the capacity and speed you need in SDHC, with the added benefit of more compact size!. I would guess they might at least make their next full-frame camera for dual media, in deference to pro users who have cases full of CF cards!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Speed!.
Compact flash has gotten much better, but SD tends to be much faster!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
