$10 an hour isn't much in Southern California either way!. And, if you are working 10 hours a day, even if you are salaried, you are entitled to overtime in the state of California because it doesn't sound like your position is exempt!.

You need to figure out how many hours a day you are doing the design work and how much time a day you are doing the secretarial-type stuff!. When I was an administrative assistant with desktop publishing skills I was never paid less than $14 per hour!. When I became a full-time graphic designer, I started at $21 per hour in SoCal (well, I already had a little experience)!. As an administrative assistant in NorCal I made between $6-$8 (about 10 years ago)!.

You can also determine what you think you're worth by checking out sites like monster!.com and careerbuilder!.com and see what's being offered for what kind of experience!. Or you can check out other salary sites, but most rely on what people report, so it's not necessarily accurate!. Check out how they come up with their numbers!.

You need to also consider at what level you are completing the design projects!. Photoshop isn't a great program for postcards, especially if there's text like prices involved, so they shouldn't have to pay a designer's wage if you're not exceptionally high grade!.

You also need to consider how much experience you have with all the other aspects of your job!. The positions I held before moving from NorCal paid a lot less because I only had a few years experience and $10 per hour would have been more than fair!. After about 5 years I was able to command more!.

So, take an inventory (what you're doing now, your experience, what you're capable of) and look around at what other people are offering!. Make sure that your company is meeting California state law for overtime and plan to leave if they aren't!. If they can't follow the law, why work for them unless you're ready for a fight!? Look for another job!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are underpaid by a lot!. I worked for a company doing a lot of what you did and got paid almost $18 an hour and I still was underpaid!.

Request a raise, especially if you are creating graphics that they own the copyright to since you are doing it during the hours as their employee!. You could make a LOT more doing this for yourself by the way :)

also, I'm curious!. If you create clipart, you can sell your privately created work as stock to make a lot of extra money!. Contact me if you are interested!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

job satisfaction the most important factor!. in-spite of putting in 10 hrs , r u happy doing all the work!? don't ask others if the amount is less or more!. try to find job and go for interview and check the value your self!.
just doing few small illustrations occasionally ( in presume ) cat not be considered big jobs in photo shop, similarly one web site too is not enough!. i think your time is spent in mailing than creative work!. Annalise your self daily after office hours how u spent the day!. u will find probably your company is justified in what it is paying out!.!.!.!. may be over paying!.! wish u good luck!. try to be happy and contended!. by the way tell me for how many years u have been paid same wages!? if it is over a year , u talk to boss politely!. reason should be cost of living is going up!.!.!. not the burden (if u feel) of work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
