I have some basic color schemes but generally I like to surround myself with lots of personal art and photographs!. I have many friends who do different art (so I get a bunch :-)), I do some myself, and I have a ton of pictures of family and friends, and places I've been!.
ex: I've got a wall that has all black and white photos/postcards of influential people like Nelson Mandela, James Dean, Bob Dylan, Audry Hepburn, Malcolm X, etc!.!.!.!.
I have an original "War is Over" (John &Yoko) Poster from NY!. (I love that) And I have a huge map of the Gulf of Maine (Mass up through Prince Edward Island) that has all the trips marked out that my Grandparents took on thier boat!. I've got a bunch of Bread and Puppet posters, !.!.!.!.!. oh yeah, and a portrait of Cosmo Kramer!.!.!.!.lol

I don't like the 'Martha Stewart' or Pottery Barn look to a home!. (aka my sisters house) A home should tell a story about the people who live there by the things they have around; not look like it just came out of a real estate or home magazine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, first I usually throw away everything I can and get some space!. Then, pick up some minimalistic furniture (usually cherry dark or even black), something really simple with definite shapes (and that was a really difficult procedure in the US, their trend now is towards really adorned pieces of furniture, Louis the XIV type!.!.!. I hate it, it reminds me of the furniture the generation of my grandparents used to have in Europe)!. The rest of the objects!.!.!. such as lamps, curtains, etc!. come in time, depending on how many times I go out and what catches my eye!.!.!. they're usually green or autumn colored!. Everything electronic comes in black!.!.!. for some reason I think it's more elegant!.
since I can't afford a real Dali or a real Monet, I go with ethnic art and paintings from home!.!.!. I brought a few handmade items and hand painted ceramic pots, a few paintings with symbols representing my home region!.!.!. but since the majority of them I offered as gifts, I remained just with three pots:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unfortunately seeing as I'm just out of school and living with my mother I have limited self-expression as regards decoration!. But, I can tell you how I decorated my room! I've painted the furniture in diluted oil paints to make it look like a stain [it's actually really nice], one is deep deep green/blue, and the other's crimson!. One wall has to beginnings of a mural I'm painting dedicated to the music I listen to, another has some cut out photogaphs from magazines I found interesting and some writing!. I've a big purple flag on another, and the rest is posters!. I've about twenty or so wine and other glass bottles with candles, oil burners, etc!. And, that's it really!.

I'm not much of a decorator!. I have lots of bookcases overflowing with good books and lots of paintings & prints on the walls, most of which you've never seen or heard of, lol!. A few that you know are by Salvador Dali, Monet, Frederick H Clarck, & Vincent Van Gogh!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We have a lot of "Country French" style furniture -wood, not modernistic but not really ornate either (just the occasional scallop)!. We also have couches with floral fabric & some eclectic pieces that just caught our attention!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have purple walls and have Black and white pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, James Dean, Bogart, and The Rat Pack in my Living Room, in my Kitchen I have 50's Pinup Chicks and the old Lounge Bar Scene!. It's wonderful!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
