Question: Help!.!.!.I am AFRAID to make art!!?
When I was younger (a kid and into my teens, thoroughout high school) I was very artistic!. I was in advanced art courses and got a lot of recognition for my work!. Then after high school, I fell out of the "art habit" and didn't do so much as sit down and draw again until I was about 22 or 23!. When I did try to draw, I realized I SUCKED!. I lost my "feel" of it and now it seems that any and all art that I try my hand at ends up being a failure!. It's terribly frustrating to know that you USED to be able to do something (ex!. draw a horse) but now you can't make your brain, hands and eyes cooperate!.

So now I have been trying to get into altered books and similar paper crafts, but I am completely overwhelmed and don't know where to start!. I have a ton of books on the subject and a ton of supplies (a whole room full, actually)!. But I am unable to make myself use them, because the few times I do try to make art, it ends up being terrible and/or I am just completely uninspiredWww@QuestionHome@Com

Oh I totally understand where you are coming from!. Same thing happened to me!. I was like "what the heck is that!?" when I would attempt to get back into art!. I'll tell you what I did that might help!.

1!. Pick pictures you think are nice on the internet or something you enjoy (stars, chartoons, hobbies of some discription) and try to replicate it!. Getting in the motion of trying to make those lines or those colors will help you remember!.
2!. Take a begining Drawing class!. I loved it! I got to pretend I never did it before and also learned new techniques I've never tried!. Got my mind working!.
3!. There is a book I bought which helped me come up with some ideas!. lets face it, when you can't draw correctly a good reason is because you have no idea what you really want to draw!. The book I got was Caffeine for the Creative Mind!. Has a whole bunch of creative excersizes that get the juices flowing!

Trust me I know what it's like!. I was really into art and pretty damn good at it (not to blow my own trumpet!.!. but toot toot)!.
And then I stopped!. I told someone I was into art once apon a time and I tried to show them how good I was, and it was absolutly lame!. LOL!.!.!. But hey, try some of those suggestions and it just might work for you!. It did for me!

Good luck! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

well i think thts what happenedWww@QuestionHome@Com

Your artistic talents are still inside somewhere but it is up to you to find them again!. You may have lost the knack to do art the way you used to be take this as a good opportunity to start again, doing different art!. You don't have to be a fantastic drawer or excellent painter to make magnificent art!. You could try drawing without looking at the page and work to new styles, trying things out differently, expanding ideas and finding new skills!.

Just remember though, art is a passion, not something you should stress over!. Do the art for yourself and only yourself, otherwise, it becomes more of a chore!. If something doesn't go right, then that is okay because no art is perfect and the chances are, if you have a little bit of artists block, no one will even notice because we are each our own worst critics!.

I see art as being that thing which you look at, and for those few moments, it is as though you are staring at something from a totally different universe, that puts a whole new perspective on life, just for those few moments, it is as though something new has been created and any artist should be thrilled to have produced such a feeling in someone!.
Every piece of art is admired by at least one person and you may not think your work is good, but to that one person, it is and if you can make just one single person feel the way i have described, then that should be enough to get you through life knowing you have accomplished something amazing!
Have faith in yourself!. The inspiration is right in front of you!. You can draw anything you like, even just a wall!. But you need to believe in yourself before anyone believes in you and your work!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am experiencing this as well!. I have always been really into art, but for the last year or so have been completely uninspired!. I look at it like writer's block only for artists!. I too have a whole room full of supplies but can't seem to muster up the creative energy to crank out anything!. In the past I have done a lot of amazing pieces, just not lately!. It can be discouarging because it seems everything has been done and it's to hard to be original anymore!. Just keep your eyes open, look all around and it will come to you!. Wait patiently!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know exactly what you mean!. I think about the same thing a lot!. I feel stunted like I've lost my creative outlet!. I wonder if its a fear of expressing my self because art is so personal!. Or I've become to self conscious and unable to let go!. I think its a mental thing rather than a talent thing!. Of course you will be rusty but art really is raw emotion, I think anyway, and I'm afraid of that!. Its like you have to see yourself in your art and you don't want to!. I know this isn't an answer but your question struck a chord in me!. If I do something good (very rarely)Its when I'm really emotional and I feel compelled!. I don't know if this is weird but in those rare situations I don't feel the art comes from me but more like through me!. Anyway although I don't have an answer for you, I got a lot out of your question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not every painting done by an artist is "good!." Artists have been known to destroy sketches and even paintings because they did not want them to be seen (MIchelangelo destroyed most of his drawings!) !. !. !. but we know they did them because of the power of their work and the development of their styles!.

I am fighting out of a slump right now!. !. !. and every painting i start goes through a period where I want to walk away from it!. Did you know that this is usually the point where you are learning and creating !. !. !. the point when it looks awful to the artist!? You must always move on, move forward, and keep working, because often the finished product far exceeds what we see at this earlier horrible moment!.

I have set myself the goal of doing a sketch a day, working on a color piece each week, and finishing a painting each month!. Doesn't sound like much, but if I keep going, even through the days I do not meet my goals, I will grow and learn and produce art once again!.

Your description is fairly common !. !. !. surrounded by supplies and materials and not a clue how to begin!. Just begin !. !. !.Www@QuestionHome@Com
