any decent image editing software can do this!. if you don't have anything, for PC you can get irfanview for free and change the image resolution from the edit menu!. for mac, you may be able to do it via the included image viewer application!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you are scanning it you need to adjust you scanners settings!. If it is already a digitial file making it larger could cause pixelation issuesWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you use Photoshop: go to Image/ Image size and change the resolutionWww@QuestionHome@Com

First of all!.!. Why!.!.!?!? Some image editing programs allow you to do so but again, why!.!.!?

If your going to send it to a publisher they may indeed want 300 DPI or at least the - pixel density - to achieve the size of print they want to make!.!.!.

Increasing the DPI will not make a digital image 'sharper'!.!. It may make it larger on your screen and a larger file to save and or send, but only the size now makes it 'look' sharper!.!.!.!.

If your wanting to print the image, and you don't have the pixel density needed to make it the size of print you want (like the publisher) your kinda in a bind here!. It will NOT look good!.!.

What many do not realize is that digital images are made up of PIXELS - picture elements - and so is your TV and computer monitor!. The more of these pixels the better, thats why more and more digital cameras are reaching 10 and 12 mega-pixels and produce an image of over 4000x3000 pixels!. And, hard to believe too, it is pixel density NOT the size of the actual chip that is important!.!. And we also have HDTV that is giving a pixel count of over 1800x1200 pixels now too (but some are in a small screen while some are 60"!.!. Hmmmm!.!.!?)!. But, hard to believe, most digital cameras, even very high-end ones are set to a mear 72 'DPI'!.!.

When making prints on any home or even commercial printers, a pixel count of only 200 PIXELS per inch of print is all you need!. A 8x10 needs 1600x2000 to look good, any more is not well seen but less IS and the print starts to show the pixels!. Pixels and DPI (Dots Per Inch) are like cats and dogs!. They are NOT the same thing!. Newspaper pictures are printed in DPI and if you look close you can see them, same as in any fine magazine, however, the count per inch is different as well as the - printing process!.!.!.!.

Newspapers use anywhere from 80 to 120 DPI!. Fine magazines use 300 DPI and if you use a eye loop or magnifying glass you can see the actual dots that make up the printed picture!. Magazines use Lithography to print many of their images to be as photo realistic as possible, but!.!.!.

The DPI and PPI (dots per inch and pixels per inch) are a confusing myth and everyone needs to THINK pixels per inch!. Period!.!.!
