Question: Art GCSE modern still life!?
I am supposed to be working to either the artists Kandinski or Leger for my work but i am finding this really difficult!. I have no idea what the layout should look like, of what colour schemes to work to!. I based my project on cosmetics like perfume bottles and necklaces and makeup!. Please can someone give me some ideas because i am lost and it needs to be finished in the next week!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm gonna assume you've already looked at lots of their work, if not then I think I've identified your problem! (use google images) Because a lot of their work is abstract you can pretty much do anything you like!.

As a starting point, how about setting up your still life and then drawing all of it or parts of it without looking at it (yes that 'taking the pencil for a walk' exercise), making sure you take your time to really look at and focus on the objects you are drawing!. You'll get the best results if you don't cheat by looking at your paper and you draw very slowly!. You could also try drawing your still life using a pencil/pen/charcoal/crayon on the end of a bamboo stick!. Once you are finished you should have some pretty interesting lines and shapes you can develop into a drawing or use in a Kandinsky style painting!.

A change in artist!.!.!.!.Morandi!? you could focus on simplicity, composition, colour and tone!.

Picasso, Braque or Juan Gris, you could try taking some photos of your still life and chopping them up as a starting point to paint from!. http://www!.ecoles!.cfwb!.be/argattidegamon!.!.!.

You could take photos of your still life, draw a grid of tiny squares over them and then paint from the grid Chuck Close style!.

I'm sorry If I've totally misinterpreted what you're supposed to be doing, I never did art at school level!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well i think u should change your artist because these artists work are well abstract and u don't really understand them!. i also think u should choose one cosmetic product like the perfume bottles because they have different shapes and textures!. and if u plan to use the artist Kandinski just use his colour scheme because they are bright and vivid and will capture loads of attention to your work!. Leger work is cubism so that's why i said use the perfume bottles because they are easy to abstract!.From what i see Ur going into an abstract track if u want to look at other abstract or cubism artist i recommend looking at David hockey because he's really good and u can use any cosmetics u feel like!.
well good luck OKWww@QuestionHome@Com

Pick a painting by either artist and re-create it using your bottles and jewelry!.The work of either artist is suitable for this approach as Leger's work is about shape and form, while much of Kandinsky's work is highly decorative!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe it's the abstraction that's putting you off!.

Have you looked at Kandinsky's wood / lino prints!? Many are (as Brian Pa!.!.!. said) highly decorative and some figurative - see examples below - His early paintings 'used glowing mosaic-like colours to evoke a fairy-tale world inspired by Russian folklore'!.

His later abstractions are full of luscious colour and (as Brian P above also says), if you just pick one of them that you love, you should be able to work effectively from it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
