Only if you think that you will not be able to find AF-S and AF-I lenses !.!.!. Since they have been made for over 25 years the chances of that are pretty low of you not finding a lot of them!.

Just look at all the AF-S lenses are available on the NikonUSA site!.

All the prime lenses from 200 mm to 600 mm are AF-S lenses
All three wide angle zooms made are AF-S lenses
All eleven of the normal zooms are AF-S lenses
Five of the eight high-power zoom lenses are AF-S lenses!.
Two of the macro lenses are AF-S lenses!.

That is a total of 26 AF-S lenses !.!.!. I don't think you have to worryWww@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry, but the D60 has the same autofocusing system as the D40 and D40x!. These bodies all do not have an autofocus motor in the body, and require AF-S or AF-I Nikon lenses!. They will also autofocus with Sigma HSM optics!.

If you want a Nikon DSLR with the AF motor in the body, the next model up is the D80!. Rumor has it that Nikon is coming out with an upgrade to the D80, so expect prices to drop soon!.

That being said, how many lenses do you want!? The lens makers are all coming out with new lens for the D40, D40x, and D60 with every introduction!. For less than $250, you can get a Nikon 55-200mm VR or a Nikon 18-135mm!. Expect more and more compatible lenses!.

I'd avoid the D40 if you have a collection of Nikon lenses from 35mm days!. Otherwise, it's a great camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just recently bought the D40 and I am very happy with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
