Question: Have you ever used a camera that did not require batteries!?

Before the digital age, the only film cameras that had a need for a battery were those with built in flash, or exposure meter, or auto film wind!. Until these things started coming along, there was just a lever to trip the shutter and an aperture ring on the lens!. Not much else was needed!. Of course as film cameras advanced to auto focus, electronic shutter and aperture control, the batteries became necessary!. I've used plenty of cameras that needed no battery, heck I have one right here near me, my Holga that I still use!.

All the time!.

Rolleiflex, Rolleicord, several old Kodak(and other boxes), and then finally a handful of 1970s SLRs!. The Rolleiflex, Rolleicord, and box cameras don't have a built-in meter, so don't even have a place for a battery!.

The SLRs I have used that didn't require a battery are my much beloved Canon F-1, F-1N, and FTb!. Others include a Yashica FX-3 Super 2000, a couple of old Petri cameras, and a Mamiya SLR which had a fixed(i!.e!. non removeable) 45mm 2!.8 lens!. All of these, of course, have a built in meter which needs a battery to work, but the shutter will work just fine with no battery installed!.

My most used camera is my F-1N!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Use a pinhole camera! ;-)

Mine are all home-built; the smallest of which use either 4x5 film or b/w print paper!. It's a nice departure from the more technically advanced cameras, and provide a pleasant touch to the output imagery!.

This is probably not the answer you were looking for, but another intriguing option you might not have been aware of!.

Good luck!

Yes, I am that old!.!.!.

Many would work fine without batteries, if you didn't want the meter to operate!.

Some had no batteries whatsoever!. Rolleiflex, Exaktas, Exa, mucho many kids' cameras!.!.!. I could still use my Spotmatic, even though I can't get batteries, but I haven't shot film for years now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
