18-55mm is the lens focal length!. 50mm is approximately "what the eye sees"!. Something less than that will be "wider" and something higher than that will be a zoom!. Depending on the sport you are interested in will be a consideration when buying a telephoto lens!. If you are looking for a lens for soccer/football or something in a field I would consider something between the 70-300mm range!.

If you are inside of a gym or lower light,, ie!. basketball, you may want to consider looking at a zoom with a faster aperture such as a constant f/2!.8 lens!. Perhaps the Sigma 70-200mm f/2!.8!.

If you are interested in somthing such as Nascar you may want to look into serious telephotos in the 200mm range and up!.

It's a standard basic lense and won't be able to zoom far, I have that same lense and a Canon D40 camera!. I really don't know how to tell, but if you ask someone at the camera shop they'll be able to explain it, it has something to do with the 18-55mm number!. If you wanna go professional try finding a longer lense with a wider view this way you can capture good images!. Photography is getting harder to do because there's so many people in that field, but I gotta admit these cameras are so much better than those small ones you just click and it zooms for you!. Best of luck and hope my answer helps a bit!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The zoom range on SLR cameras is measured in focal length!. So the higher the number in milimeters the further the zoom capability!. A very popular zoom lens now is the 70-300mm!. This is a bit confusing but on your camera this is equal to about a 112-480mm zoom on a 35mm camera because of the 1!.6 crop factor!.
To put it in terms of a point and shoot camera with this lens in addition to the 18-55mm you would have the equivalent of a 26x zoom!.

Look at the 70-300 mm lenses!. There are several different ones that will range in price from about $200-$600!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

18-55 is one before 18-56 and it's one after 18-54!.!.!. Hope this clears it up for you!.!.!. by the way do you have any spare cleavage!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
