Question: To painters and artists: which of these oil/acrylic painting is the easiest to do!?
i've never taken an art class before so i dont kno how to paint nor do i kno anything about techniques etc!. I love these paintings (the texture especially) i wanted to use these as an inspiration!. i dont kno how to create this texture!. i've tried practice painting with oil paint and it turns out pretty flat and one dimensional (the painting itself and the texture)!. So i bought some impasto for the oil paint and it still looks pretty textureless!.!.

im trying to paint something along these lines with acrylic paints and I bought heavy gesso to work with!.

which of these paintings is easiest to achieve!?!? tips would be greatly appreciated!.

The first and third paintings look as if they were painted with a knife and maybe the line work was done with a brush!. Oil paints right out of the tube using a knife would be best for achieving that texture!. Acrylics are buttery in texture, but not stiff enough!. However, to me, the second painting looks as if the medium was applied with a stiff bristle brush!.

It's hard to tell how a painting was done from a photograph!. It's best to look at the real thing to try to figure out how it was done!.

Gesso is used to prime the surface to be painted on!. If you apply the gesso too thick, it might crack!. If you want to create texture in your paintings, I wouldn't recommend using the gesso, use the paint instead!.

You don't have to build texture with the paint per se, but if you acquire technical ability, you can paint on a very slick and smooth surface and and create the illusion of texture, depth, (dimension-as you call it) light and shadow!.

You just need to practice--practice--practice!. When it comes to becoming a good painter, you learn by doing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
