Question: What does the word 'hue'mean when used as part of the name of a color of an acrylic paint!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I usually paint with oils, but I think that it is the same with oils or acrylics or watercolor paints when you talk abour "hues"!. With a "hue" the genuine, original pigments that were traditionally used by the masters have been substituted with synthetics or artificial substances!. This can be to make the paint cheaper or SAFER!. A lot of traditional paint used real dangerous things like lead, cadmium, cobalt, barium and other highly toxic substances so a "hue" uses a synthetic or other substitute to actually make the paint safer!. Other times it is because the pigment is expensive and it's just a cheap-a$$ way to make paint!. Buy the best that you can afford don't worry about which is a "hue"!. You will know after using a few different brands which have the good rich color - lots of thick ground pigment - and which are just thin, oily (or watery in the case of acrylics or watercolors) junk!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it can mean:
1) the variety of colors or the tint

2) "the property of light by which the color of an object is classified as red, blue, green, or yellow in reference to the spectrum"

3)color: all the hues of the rainbowWww@QuestionHome@Com

hue (n)- a gradation or variety of a color; tint: pale hues!.
in other words it is a darker lighter shade of a specific color light baby blue would be a lighter hue of blue where as navy would be a darker hue (just an example)Www@QuestionHome@Com
