i say paper is better than canvas!.

and i suggest that you use a high-quality bond paper!.

something which is quite hard, but smooth!.

try corona bond paper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

for really good pieces I'd suggest a light water color paper, If you like fine detail work get a hot press, if you go for a more bold textural style then use a cold press (my preference but I use gouache)
You wouldn't need a really heavy paper sense your using a dry medium, but water color has a nice stiffness and will take more of a beating then the regular stuff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on the look you're going for!. I'd recommend experimenting with lots of different combinations!. Have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

your skill as an artist has more to do than the brand of pencil or marker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
