It's nice to see that everything is back to normal around here!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Never known a true pro to be jealous - its unprofessional!.

I have only noticed failing fotogs get all jealous!. The sucessful ones are mostly very charming and helpful!.

I think that its a bit more than a lack of sucess, its also a resentment of those that made the hard decisions and went and studied full time and because of good decisions and solid goals they have the foundations to suceed!. What those without the foundations dont get is the pain it took the sucessful to get there!.

There are generally 2 types of photographer: the first type see other fotogs as collegues - like me!. The second lot tend to be those not educated in photography, young and of the mind that money buys photographic skills, they see others (particually those doing well) as competition!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.so they compete and even do it underhanded - they have no chance of sucess!.

I was shooting at a local hockey game where I and six other photographers were covering!. It was strange, because all the other photographers acted as if each other were not there!. They looked around each other, and turned the other way when they passed by!. I hate to say it, but I began to act like them as well!.

I don't know why they were being this way, but I think it might be "professional jealousy," as you put it!. I have not noticed this on Yahoo Answers, but your question reminded me of what I encountered!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A cryptic answer to a cryptic question
It seems to me that there is jealousy but it isn't the professional that is jealous it is the non professional!.
I know of one person whos Name is Deleted who was Inspired by one and the same person to sabotage an Ace answerer in a petty and malicous way!. Reporting under several IDs to get said Ace thrown out!.
Jealousy is so childish!.

What goes around comes around I can promise you that is the case here!.

People who are jealous like that must be sick in the head!. They think that everyone is out to get them and they are not wrong!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have been a pro since the early, early 1970's and really never found any jealousy among other pros !.!.!. well there is the "I which I had that assignment" kind of joking that went on, but generally we SHARE everything with each other!.

Now there are different points of view when it comes to approaching a shoot, but again there are so many right ways to do something, it is not really an issue!. The one thing we could always agree, is it was up to us to provide the absolute best images we could!. We are the pros, so it is up to us to act that way and supply first class images!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that photogs who have met each other and even worked side-by-side are very collegial!. I have known of cases where one has either loaned large amonuts of expensive equipment gratis or even done a shoot for another - still gratis - when necessary!.

I think that when those who have never met and have nothing more than a stack of answers to match up against each other, it is a shame that anyone sees this as a contest!.

There is a good question about how you handle it when you see an answer with which you do not agree that might apply in this situation!.

VERY FEW photogs on this board have ever met in person and almost as few have actually seen the other's work!. Under those conditions, it is a real shame to see them fall into a battle of words to see who can talk a better game!. The "classy" professionals rise above this!. Just read the answers in queue above me and you will see what I mean!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

only a fool would be jealous of another persons knowledge and experience and education, concerning anything be it painting, gilding, photography, brain surgery, dentistry, carpentry, architecture, et all
the thing to do when one finds someone with more knowledge than they have is to hang with them and ask questions with the idea of learning and improving!.!.!.
no one person is ever going to be the BEST at anything, because as long as one is breathing and practicing (photography) (and some of the best artists i know take a class as a student from time to time), one can still learn, from experience, and from other photographers!. that doesn't take away from one's knowledge, it adds to it!. it doesn't take away from a person's stature to need to learn something, when a person is willing to learn, it adds yards to their stature as an artist, craftsperson, surgeon, etc!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think something like that often comes from a feeling of helplessness!.

It's a terrible feeling when your world is falling apart and you feel you're unable to do anything about it!.
I think this can turn in on a person , creating sensitivity , bitterness and resentment towards those that seem to be breezing through life without facing the same obstacles!.

I can understand those feelings, and we've probably all experienced them at some stage!.

To act on this is called levelling!.
For example "I feel bad about myself, so I want to hurt others to make them feel bad about themselves too"

But there is a choice there, to lash out, and therefore hurt yourself even more (as well as those around us),
or to make the decision to put those feelings to one side and choose not to let them eat at you and destroy your peace of mind!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some people just have very fragile egos and cannot accept the fact that someone else may know more than they know or can do something better than themselves!. I don't think there is anything particularily wrong with some jealousy, it is what makes MOST people strive to improve themselves!. But others are too lazy to bother to learn or make their own craft better and find it much easier to lash out at others and hate them for their knowledge and skill!.

I suppose there is jealousy in every profession!.

If it's directed towards you!.!.!. be optimistic about it!.!.!. take it all in stride!. Maybe the person might like your work but if too stubborn to swallow their pride and tell you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sometimes I am jealous of anothers work!.!.!.but that is simply motivation to improve!. The hostility of which you speak sounds more like a character/personality issue than one as a result of being in this profession and therefore universal to any profession!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I won't say jealousy so much as it appears to be arrogance!.

I do see in this profession that there are a lot of people that are very arrogant, but am thankful we have people like Fhotoace and Dr!. Sam to help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. In every profession there is!.

Basically human is like that (rich or poor)!. Now, that will only be depend on the person how to handle it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fhotoace is just jealous that he can't skew horizons the way I can!.
Oh, wait!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No more than in any other profession!.

Apparently, in my case, you have mistaken professional concern for jealousy!.
As someone that has taken a lot from this profession, I have always given as much back as possible!. I've taught college courses, given private lessons and my time to many related organizations!. I am in league with fellow photographers who share my views of promoting photography!.
In the case of fhotoace, I see a poor steward of their position carelessly distributing information with no follow-up and no correction of erroneous information!. That is cause for concern in any case!. When you put that in the Y!A setting you compound the problem by having no valid form of checks and balances!. Naivety and ignorance lead people to accept information they are presented simply because the giver is a Top Contributor, Top Answerer or lists cute titles for themselves as a source!. And worse, someone who learned the wrong information chimes in only to back-up the source!.
Are you getting the picture now Perki!? Calling me a "Petty little bugger" or jealous is just silly to me!. You can call me anything you want or report my questions (reinstated now) and answers, it will never influence how I feel about providing correct information!.
Y!A should require people to check a box before they accept an answer declaring they have considered the source!

Interesting accusations and threats droopydraws!. I'll keep an eye on you and your contacts!. I would gladly take responsibility if any of what you say were true!. I don't hide behind fake/new IDs or erroneously report posters!. I'm sure you think you are a real sleuth for figuring this out, but I knew I would be accused as soon as I saw it!. It doesn't really make sense for me to do that and keep posting does it!? If I was going to do something like that you would never suspect me!. At least all of this "fun" has kept me hanging out here long enough to answer plenty of questions so you and your friends can run around and report me!. I hope you have plenty of IPs to go with your fake IDs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
