You can use any kind of brush you want for oil painting but some are better than others depending on how you paint!. Brushes that are synthetic such as the nylon will be distorted or destroyed if used with a strong solvent when cleaning up such as lacquer thinners and similar solvents but if you are careful and use only mineral spirits or turpentine for cleanup you'll be ok!. They are more often used with acrylics and watercolor!. Camels hair is a very pliable bristle there for it is at it's best in watercolor!. A bristle brush is best suited for oils because of its stiffness!. Sable hair is the primo fiber in a watercolor brush because it has what we call " snap " which is it's ability to return to its pointed position after each stroke a much desired quality among most watercolorists unless they are doing sumie or a similar style!. You have avoided asking about shape and size!. In watercolor the Kolinsky sable is the very best but prohibitive in cost to many !. There is an equivalent brush :sabeline " which is almost as good made for Utrecht paints!. Hope this helps someWww@QuestionHome@Com

unless you are a professional painter you can mix and match all of your brushes for oil or water baseWww@QuestionHome@Com
