Well, $450 should buy you a nice DSLR (that stands for Digital single Lens reflex)!. A DSLR accepts interchangeable lenses and it is more flexible and practical if you are serious about your hobby and if you want to grow with your photography!. One of the best sites out there is www!.dpreview!.com - it has lots of reviews and a very active forums!. In any case, if you decide that a DSLR is what you need (and I would recommend that you do go with a DSLR!), go for the reliable brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony or Olympus!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you can talk them into it, go for the Canon Rebel XTi, it's what I use (images at http://www!.laurenchildre!.tk if you would like to see what its capable of) it was only 600 dollars and that included the lense and memory card!.

I am very partial to Canon, but for your price range and Nikon D80 would probably be cheaper!. It's about 500 with lenses and maybe a little more to get a memory card!.

If you are not talking about wanting a Digital SLR though, then you could always go for a Canon Powershot, they are VERY nice to be point and shoots for a relatively low price!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only DSLR close to your price range is the Nikon D40!. It will cost about $500!.00 with lens!. You may be able to find a tad cheaper though!.
You may also want to go to a camera store and inquire about any used Nikon or Canon DSLR's!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!.!.I would suggest Nikon initially!.!.after you master the art of photography!.!.you can opt for Sony, Canon, Panasonic etc!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
