transparent, allows you to adjust selected layers opacity, to see through to next lower layer thats viewable, from 99% to 0%, also used for gif and png images for web use, not available for jpg images,

blending could use transparency feature, blending is mixing one image into another from left to right for example, blending could be use of colors mixing gradually from color A to color B, with the use of mask feature in photoshop you can make part of one layer gradually fade from image to blank, where in the lower image would blend in from where top image fades off,
