Hi, Potlock!.

Well, I take people's passions seriously!.

Here's something you should know: It's VERY rare that a photographer does only one thing!. Another thing is, you're a freelance photographer the moment you're ok with saying, "I'm a freelance photographer hoping to make my first sale!." If you can't say it seriously, you can't do it, make it a hobby!.

Keep your eyes open for opportunities, and make your own opportunities!. If you or someone you know can write (can be an adult), you can cover events around town, with you taking pictures, and sell the stories to local newspapers!. Cover things of interest that might not be covered by the papers!.

You can go to your local newspaper office, or email a desk editor, and say you're interested in learning how to shoot and sell photographs!. You may be very surprised to find how happy people are to give you good advice, and spend time talking and working with you!.

Even if you aren't interested in writing or photojournalism, talking to be people in that profession is an awesome experience!.

I mention photojournalism specifically because it's widespread, constantly looking for material, and readily accessible!.

Of course, you can also talk to professional photographers, and it's a powerful thing to walk right into a photographer's studio and talk to the photographers in person!.

Shooting for your school yearbook, newspaper or other publications is another opportunity!. Yearbooks often use things like landscapes as backdrops for pages!.

If you have good shots that might do as art, then you can have them blownup and framed!. Look for community art groups which have youth competitions, and galleries for community artists!.

Basically, I'm telling you, "Go for it!"

The best way to get moving as a photographer is to talk to those who are successful at the kind of photography that you want to do!.

When I wanted to learn snowboard photographers, I approached pro snobwoard shooters and ended up being an assistant to one of them at a snowboard company!. When I wanted to learn wedding photography, I approached wedding photographers and got critique on the images I was producing!.

Photographers who are better than you are the ones who will most help you improve!. Yes, you should do your own work and learn as much as you can from books, websites and classes!. But finding mentor photographers is a great way to move that process along faster!.

Here is a good interview with a talented landscape photographer:

That site is also worth exploring!. There are lots of other talented photographers there as well:

While you can always work on your own terms as a freelancer, you need to pick a field of photography that is in demand and were you can make some money !.!.!.like for food, shelter and most of all, enough to pay for the two or three DSLR bodies you have to replace every three or four years (at about $5,000 to $8,000 for each body)Www@QuestionHome@Com

At 14 you cant really expect anyone to take you seriously!. Do you have any experience!? Do you have decent gear!? Photography is EXPENSIVE! People will not hire you to take landscape photographs!. You need to get into studio photography to make any money!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
