It's pretty good!. But I'll go through the reasons why it doesn't look professional!.

Firstly, you were too close to the subject!. Next time, stand back at least 10 feet and zoom in!. This ensures the prominent features of the face aren't exaggerated!.

The white balance is a little too cold!. I'm not too sure about your camera, but I would say it does have different white balance settings!. In this case, you would have been best to select the Shade (or cloudy) setting!.

The background is too distracting and the tree trunk cuts down the center of her head!.

One other thing which you really don't have any control over is the lens distortion!. You need a higher end camera to take care of this, but on the other hand, I would assume that if you stood back and zoomed in, then the lens distortion would be greatly eliminated!.

Hope this helps!. Other than all that, I do honestly think it's a great photo!. It's definitely 100 times better than amateur :-)

Edit: ignore nasty remarks from other answers here!. There's a difference between a critique and an insult!.

Edit: Tommy - I'm actually a guy :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not a bad snap of a friend, but ask yourself this!. If you were paying $100 or more (plus prints) for a portrait session and this was as good as you got, would you be satisfied!? No, you wouldn't!. You'd say, "I can take a picture just as good with my point and shoot camera with auto exposure, auto white balance!.!.!." Wait a second!. That's just what you did!. It came out okay, but that's more a matter of circumstances than any level of skill!.

This does not detract from the quality of the image as a fine memory of the good parts of the day you spent with your friend!. It's far better than a lot of snapshots we are asked to critique here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a nice snapshot!. It does not look professional for many reasons, which several folks have already pointed out!. I agree, but that doesn't make it a bad photo!. It is what it is, a point and snap from a novice untrained photographer, similar to millions of others photos taken with similar cameras in similar circumstances!. It is very nice for your album, and if you frame it, Grandma will love it!. There are all sorts of avenues to learn more about photography if you are interested!. Keep learning and practicing and enjoy!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Specifically, the fence in the background is distracting; the pose is forced (girl looks rigid, uncomfortable);the background should be blurred or with a softer focus; a gobo (a screen made of white material) should be placed above the subject; and a gold fill in (screen) should be place in front of the subject--to give her a softer glow, which is generally nice on light-skinned people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. I'm sorry but it does not!. The pose is similar to what you would find in a senior photo- but the location ( ie!. the tree behind the girls head and the utility box to the side) is really bad placement!. The exposure is too over blown on the face and arms- no detail!. Color is lacking- the green from the trees are the only striking color and if it is a portrait, then the color should have some sort of importance to the person!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I totally agree with Inspire!. She offered you a very good critique without being insulting!. I'm not a portrait photographer although I have done some in the past!. I would go with the advice Inspire gave you!. Your subject (the young lady) is quite pretty and has nice features!. Someone you could definitely practice with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

shoulders back, chest out, !.!.!. don't hunch over the table using your arms to hold you up, don't make a barrier crossing your arms in front of such a warm positive smile and good 'eye contact'!.!.!. mixed body-language signals gives an overall impression of uncertainty or non-confidence!. I see you are young, and brave to ask, so you are learning!.!.!.better and better!.!.!. Your future pictures will be super !!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

These people on here are crazy if they think this doesn't look proffesional!. The lighting is perfect, the picture quality is fantastic, it's very clear, and you're beautiful! That first guy to comment is a total loser!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it looks alright considering the quality of the camera!. It's obvious that no lighting was used and the scene would be incorporated into the theme of the shot, so why is there a smiling girl in a cemetery!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, you should have used the portrait setting which would have blurred the background, directing the eye to the subject!.
The camera will do that for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The actual print isn't too bad but the composition with the extraneous stuff in the background is distracting!. A slightly out of focus background would possibly look better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

very well done, dont really like the pose or maybe its the table shes leaning on but very well done nice and clear good shotWww@QuestionHome@Com

Kinda-sorta!. Not really though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

At first it did but not really, the clarity is not that great and you look really washed out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

this picture is a gem!. it is a very suitable portrait!. the lighting of the girl is very good, not dark at all and the background is nicely lit too!. the subject is centred!. she is cute!. very simple yet it does what it is suppossed to do!. it captures a moment in a persons life!. you just have to think about 20 to 30 years down the road!. is this picture going to capture the subject in such a way that down that road whomever looks at it (including the subject) is going to say, "wow, look at her, she was very pretty when she was this age", or comment on any of her current features, like the braces!. will people be surprised and have a smile when they look at it!? i think people will!. even looking back at pictures of me and my friends and family from 10 years ago, i feel happy to see how much people have changed or not changed!. i would say this is a very excellent picture!. keep chronicling, whomever took it!.

these are some of my pictures and videos!. what do you think!?
