Question: How would YOU approach this post processing technique!?
I've done searches pretty much all over yet I can't find seem to find anything on this kind of color manipulation!. Surely it isn't just cross processing techniques in photoshop!?

I like the subtle cooler tones yet the skin tones seem warm!. Can someone point me in the right direction!?

Well!.!.!. the second photo is mine, I darken the background a little using an underexpose image from the same RAW photo!. You can get an idea how I work looking at this:

I did a basic color correction using Lightroom, and then in photoshop where I use all the layer at the end I adjust "Color Balance" I like to add Blue to the Shadows and a little of Yellow to the Hightlights!.

Hope this was of any help :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first photo I think is an effect of light, not post processing!. There is a strong back light from the sun and a very strong fill flash!. There may have been some dynamic range manipulation in post processing, but this shot could easily be unaltered!.

The second photo, again seems a factor of light rather than post processing!. The light is soft, the lens long with a shallow depth of field!. Probably a low-natural light situation!. This shot may also be unaltered!.

The last shot has some interesting color manipulation!. It's possible it was a filter, but I do believe it is post processing!. The reds are pulled down, perhaps the blue boosted just a bit!.

An issue with Color and digital - it is highly dependent on the display monitor - which you do not have control of!. I have two monitors side by side!. The images are slightly warmer on one over the other!. Both are high quality LCD displays - but they are different brands and ages!. The point is that when others view your images, they may not see what you see!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try this neat little Photoshop trick that I use quite a bit!.

windoze machine!.

ctrl+shift+tilde (~)
You will see a million ants
ctrl+alt+I (reverse)
ctrl+H (hides the ants)

Then use filters or contrast, curves, whatever that manipulates the image!.

What that little trick does is selects the highlights, or the revers (opposite) and lets you manipulate only that!. It works pretty damned well!. I use it quite often!. You can go back and forth by using ctrl+alt+I (reverse) to achieve the desired affect!.

I learned that little one from a photoshop pro when I worked at a major publication manipulating images for publishing!.

Just remember, when you are finished use ctrl+D to deselect the activity!. Otherwise, when you do normal manipulation it will drive you nuts!.

I use that trick on many of my images I have on my web site

I like to keep things simple and chose not to clutter up my head with a ton of photoshop tricks!. I swear by this one!. Just keep going back and forth, using different filters, contrast, saturation, etc to get the desired affect!. Always remember, when you are through you need to deselect!.
