Question: How to age film!?
I am a fan of expired films (120 & 35mm) and wondered how to prematurely age film!? I know you can buy it on ebay and stuff, I'm more interested in if its possible to do at home!. It has been recommended to me to simply leave the film in the car for a few days and the heat should give some aged effects, yet I do not know how successful this would be!. Another far-fetched idea was to microwave it for a few seconds (lol), sounds REALLY far-fetched!. Any suggestions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Heat will do it!. The three color layers that are normally separate begin to merge with heat!. The molecules of the layers move more 'excitedly' when heated!. The molecules from the various layers begin to transcend the small barriers between the layers to mix with the molecules of other color layers and you have aging!.

This is the same process by which film ages normally but by heating the film you are simply accelerating the process!. Keep the film in a black plastic film can and place in direct window sunlight!.

Do not microwave as this will melt the film base and ruin the film!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

download windwos movie maker!. its free and easy to use, once you just upload your regular video, theres a place where you can add effects!. one of the effects is "film age" and it has 3 different settings like old older oldest and you can arrange it to what you want!. good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would think if you kept the film at about 140 degrees F (60 C) or higher for a few months, it will be a good starting point!.

I would put ten rolls of colour negative film in your boot (trunk in the states) and leave them there over the summer !.!. into fall and test one every month or so until you get the exact effect you are attempting to achieveWww@QuestionHome@Com

Heat!. Don't microwave the film, it will likely explode!. Keep it at about 50-60 degrees for a while and it should start to give the effect you want!. As for exactly how long to keep it, you'll have to experiment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
