There's an increasing number of careers that use 3D modeling and animation software!. I'm an industrial designer and it is heavily used in all areas of my field as well as many others!. Off the top of my head, and I'm sure this is just a partial list:

2!. Shoe Design
3!. Car and Transportation Design
4!. Exhibit Design
5!. Urban Planning and Design
6!. Lighting Design
7!. Theater and Set Design
8!. Toy Design
9!. Video Gaming Industries
10!. The Movie Industry- animation, special effect depts!.
11!. Advertising- tv and print!.
12!. Architecture
13!. Interior Design
14!. Shows like CSI, Law and Order (any time you see those animated reenactments of crime scenes)
15!. Forensics and Police Work (same reason as above, but this time for real cases)
