Question: I need a song for a musical!!?
My theatre teacher said that this year instead of doing a full scale musical, we were going to do a "musical review"!. She told me to pick a song from any musical and I could perform that song and scene!. Any ideas!? I'm not really sure what my voice is exactly, but I belive its around soprano and mezzo!. I really like musicals that are upbeat, such as Mamma Mia!, Legally Blonde, Hairspray, and Wicked!. (: THANKS!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on what your voice sounds like but some really good songs can be found in musicals like
Cats
Chicago
Fiddler on the Roof
Guys and Dolls
Grease
Kiss Me Kate
Meet Me In St Louis
Shall We Dance
Singin' In The Rain
Thoroughly Modern Millie
West Side Story

You can also look at the sites I have listed below for more ideas!. I hope this helps and good luck!

well a good rule of thumb is not to do songs from wicked or hairspray for an audition!. directors pull their hair out they hear it so much, not to rain on your parade!. The winner takes it all from mamma mia is a good song!. If you're just looking for an upbeat song that's not from a rock musical, don't rain on my parade from funny girl is a good song!. hope this helpedWww@QuestionHome@Com

my new philosophy from you're a good man charlie brown would be fun!. without love or good morning baltimore from hairspray could turn out really well!. what you want, omigod you guys, chip on my shoulder, bend and snap!.!.!.basically any song from legally blonde would be fun!. popular, defying gravity, or dancing through life would be great choices from wicked!. i don't really know mamma mia, so can't help you there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You will still have to get the rights to perform the songs, which means that you can count Wicked, Legally Blonde and Hairspray out, because you won't get the rights to any songs from those shows!. Look at something older - there are some great songs in Cole Porter musicals, Jerome Kern wrote some great stuff, as did Cy Coleman - they all have musical theatre "standard" songs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds like you have your mind made up, but I highly recommend you do something a little older!. Something that is not on Broadway or the Radio every day!.
Most songs from Musicals can be re pitched for any voice!.
"To Dream the Impossible Dream" is a biggy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

IF you do Wicked, pick your songs wisely!. That musical is sooo overdone!. Plus they are comparing you to the biggies: Chenowith and Menzel!.

The Pajama Game is a really fun one!. I like "Not at all in Love" you just need a few friends to do it with you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, from Mamma Mia! you could actually sing Mamma Mia, I love that song! From Hairspray you could try Without Love or You Can't Stop The Beat! Good luck! ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com
