Question: What's a good female Shakespearean monologue!?
I'm trying out for The Tempest at the local collage and am unsure of what monologue to use for it!. It doesn't HAVE to be from the Tempest, so anything is fine!. A little background information on the monologue would help a little!. I've no real preferences, and even a male monologue is fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend any of Juliet's speeches, (from 'Romeo and Juliet', of course), because she has a similar sense of wonder, youthful charm and naivety as that shown by Miranda!. If you are going to try out for Ariel, (the only other part usually played by a female) then Puck's speeches from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' have a similar content and style!. I would avoid Lady Macbeth, but you could perhaps consider Ophelia from 'Hamlet': 'O what a noble mind is here o'erthrown' which she speaks after Hamlet has abused her with insults!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do you know what the Tempest is about!? Search for a monologue which makes the auditioner see you in that role!.
You'd probably audition for Miranda and I don't see her as being like Lady M!.

EDIT: Agree with Gruff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hands down, Lady Macbeth's soliloquy from the play Macbeth where she tells her husband to "screw your (his) courage to the sticking point!" and get the murdering done!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go to monologuearchive!.com!. It has all the good monologues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
