Congratulations on coming out of your shell, something that i did as a visual artist less than two years ago, before answering your question perhaps an understanding of where I am now would help to support what will seem to be not exactly the answer you are looking for!.

In two years I have completed a one year course of study, I have had three very successful exhibitions with another planned in February 09, am laying the foundations for a UK National Tour in 2014, that will do!.

I cannot give you an answer, no-ne can, there is no fast track in the most competitive field in the world, the Arts, what I can give you however is a little advice, dont worry about tomorrow, next month or even next year, dont worry about being rich or famous, worry about TODAY, other than to practice your field, other than to concentrate on you and your image, do at least one thing EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK OF THE MONTH OF THE YEAR, by the end of the year you will have done at least 365 things to further your career and reputation, it does not matter how small that THING is, it could be as little as giving a dollar to a poor man, there are always rewards along the way for good deeds, someone may see you and recognise you as a good person but moreso you will feel good about yourself and if you feel good you will feel motivated, write a letter, watch a film or play of a different genre, find a mentor, most of all BE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE, if people see you living the dream they will believe you are living the dream and opportunities and people will materialise from seemingly nowhere, honest I jest not!.

If you are passionate and dedicated then one thing everyday is not a problem, and think where you will be in ten years time when you have done 3520 things, of course you have to make some form of living in the meantime but hey, remember the 'struggling artist' phase that we must all go through, it is character building and will mark you as a person who will keep going no matter what, that is dedication and will be rewarded, just enjoy life and do that one thing every day!.

A life in the arts is a LIFE STYLE, if you are meant to be what you want to be then it will happen, keep your ego in check and be humble, no-one likes a smart alec!.and, finally, dont rush or you will lose valuable lessons along the way!.
