Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is it "Stanislavski" or "Stanislavsky?"?

Question: Is it "Stanislavski" or "Stanislavsky!?"!?
I've seen the famous theater pioneer Konstantin's Stanislavsk(i/y)'s name spelled both ways with a fair amount of frequency!.!.!. Is there an actual correct version, or are both acceptable because of the inherent vagueness in the translation from Russian to English!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi

Because Russian uses a totally different alphabet and there are no strict transliteration rules, only guidelines, you can use both!. In Ukraine they may even write Stanislavskiy which is closest phonetically!.

Hope this helps!

Both are acceptable though I think in America we tend toward Stanislavsky more often!. I see both all my life (50+years) and never a definitive remark anywhere!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
