An agent is someone who believes in your talent and decides to sign you onto their agency!. Agents receive breakdowns from casting directors for various projects and the agent will look over the breakdown and decide who they have signed to them that would meet the casting directors needs and then submit those people to the CD!. If an actor books the job the agent gets a small percentage (usually about 10-15%) of what you earn!. Because an agent doesn't get paid unless you work they will only sign people they believe are bookable!.

You need an agent because most casting directors don't look twice at self submissions!. You may be the most talented actor in the world but you will only be taken seriously if you do your work and get signed with a reputable agent!.

To get one you need to get experience under your belt!. Take classes, do local shows, student films etc!. Once you have credits to your name get headshots done, create a resume and then you can begin submitting yourself to local agents!. Do not waste your time submitting to agents who are not in your area!. They can't book you locally so you are of no interest to them!. You can also invite agents to shows you are in!. Some agents never come and some go all the time!. It really varies!. But it is worth your while to notify the local agents when you are involved in a project!. Get postcards of your headshots made and then write/print notes on the back inviting them or informing them of what you are doing!.

Agents do not cost anything!. Their are no upfront fees of any kind!. Like I said, they get paid when you get paid!. If someone asks for money then they are most likely a school or a scam and you should not sign with them whatever you do!.

But the best advice I can offer is right now focus on getting experience!. Far too many people submit to the agencies before they have any experience and you want them to know you take the business seriously!. A pretty face is not enough to book a job so do your work and you may just have a successful career!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Agents find acting jobs for you!. If you want to act you need one because hopefully they'll know a lot more people in the acting and theatre business and will be listening for anything that might come up for you!. They keep in contact with potential employers for you and I think also negotiate your payment--they'll know what you should be paid!. I don't know how much an agent costs though!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
