Question: High School Musical! Any theatric people or actors/actresses I need your opinion!.!.!?
This year my school is doing High School Musical as our spring musical! I am a freshman but really, really would love to be a part of this cast in ANY way! I've danced for about 8 years, been in All Count Choir for 4 years and have done Guys and Dolls Jr!. as a Hot Box Girl and Willy Wonka Jr!. as Grandma Josephina!. Auditions are different in High School though everyone will be watching me sing, dance, and act alone! I understand thats how things work and there is nothing i can do but , even though i love to perform i get EXTREMELY nervous for auditions and when it gets really bad it makes my performance suffer!. Is there anything i can do to not be so nervous(besides picturing the director not there or in his underwear that never really works for me haha), also do you from this information think i have a slight chance of just being the chorus!!? I need a confidence boost or a reason not to audition!. Thanks for all the help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello!. :]

I am a senior in HS and the President of my school's Drama Club!.

If you ave major choir experience, which it appears you do, then you will probably at least get in the choir!.
I see tons of people audition, and what I look for when I cast plays are a few things!.
I see if the person is friendly and will be able to make all rehearsals!. I check their grades and other activities to see how devoted he or she will be!.
When I listen to them read aloud, I pay attention to their annunciation!.
One major way to get into a play is to give a good, cold read, meaning when you read from the script, make sure you are loud enough for everyone to hear, your hair is out of your face, and you say the sentences correctly!. Pause at commas, etc!.
Another thing, when it is a musical, and I am watching people dance, I check to see if they are smiling and look enthusiastic, if they are getting the steps right, and if they are enjoying it!.
I also check to make sure they can take direction!. For instance, if I say "Try to look really angry when you sing that!." And they try their hardest, I will definitely be more likely to pick that person because a director wants an actor that will do what he or she is told without complaint or hesitation!.

I know that was a lot to take in, but these tiny actions are what makes and breaks my cast list!.

also, remember, you are a freshman, so seniority does rule, however, if they don't use you in this play, do not give up hope!. They may see great potential, but maybe they might not think you are right for a specific part in this play!. Never ever back down from not getting cast!. Always go for it again!. The more you audition, the more dedication they will see from you!.

And one more thing: I get really nervous at auditions too!. My knees shake and everything!. Don't think about anyone there!. Just think about what you are doing, and do it right!. If you make a mistake, don't break character and just keep going!. Just smile and shake it off!. Mistakes are inevitable!.

I, personally think, with all of that experience you have under your belt, that you will do absolutely fine!.

:]

I hope that helped without overwhelming you!.
