Question: What's your opinion on doing Rent as a high school play!?

My school is doing a the school play Rent, and parents are pretty mad about it because of religious reasons and such!.What's your opinion on a school doing the Rent the Musical!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I think it's a great choice!. It has an amazing story, with great singing!. It involves real life things, from HIV/AIDS to friends!. I don't really see anything wrong with Rent!. There are some things some parents would disagree with, such as being lesbian or doing drugs, but drugs are never onstage, and the lesbian characters don't really do that much!. If this play went on at my kids' school, I'd probably let them audition if they were at least over 15!. It involves some heavy things, but has a good message!. I think people should know what some parts of the world are like, instead of hiding behind excuses like religion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

acting is not the same thing as endorsing!. a student who plays roger will not learn to do drugs and have wild unmeditated sex!.

if there is a lesson to be learned from rent, it's to find humanity in everyone!. this lesson is universal, and if performing rent in schools can promote that lesson, it's a good thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
